A true part of St.Andrews’ local heritage, The Lammas market is a wonderful annual affair. Spreading through the main town centre streets, it is packed with rides and attractions, stalls, food and drink. The Lammas has it roots in medieval history and is one of Europe’s oldest markets. It has become a celebrated event, with hundreds of local visitors and tourists flocking to the streets over the four day market.
The market grows in scale over it’s duration; Friday and Saturday are witness to a variety of rides, events and stalls in Market Street. Here you can ride on the Dodgems, catch a rubber duck, or try your luck on the Horse Racing or penny slot machines. Attractions are extended into South Street and the adjoining streets over the Monday and Tuesday. There is something for everyone, with children’s merry-go-rounds, spinning tea-cups, outdoor bingo and stalls, terrifying ghost trains and dizzying Kamikaze.
Spin yourself silly on the Waltzers, or grab a roof top view over St.Andrews from the top of the big wheel. It’s only here once a year, so go on, get along to the Lammas now and celebrate a loud, riotous and wonderful part of St.Andrews history!
